Mahoora is the ultimate Sri Lankan safari experience, combining true luxury and complete wilderness with a professional Team to guide you on the journey of a lifetime. Mahoora Camps can be set up in areas of stunning beauty such as the wild and rugged Knuckles Range, the southern idyllic Rekawa Beach where the turtles regularly visit, and close to Dambana Village, home of Sri Lanka's true indigenous people, the Veddhas.
Sri Lanka boasts 15 National Parks each with a diverse range of endemic wildlife, including Yala - famous as being home to the highest density of leopards in the world, Udawalawe - where Asian elephant spottings are guaranteed on every safari, Minneriya - where the largest herd of wild elephants in the world gather during several months of the year, Wilpattu - recently re-opened and the perfect location to spot the elusive sloth bear, Gal Oya - the only Park to offer boat safaris, and Kumana - where an incredible 255 bird species have been recorded...to name but a few.
It is recommended that guests wear casual and comfortable lightweight clothing, and suitable footwear for outdoor activities. Sun protection cream is recommended, as are hats and sunglasses. Cameras and video recorders with sufficient batteries are a priority, so as not to lose capturing those magic moments.
The only money required shall be if guests' would like to tip the Staff. Mahoora believe that tipping is totally at the guests discretion.
All Mahoora Camps have basic First Aid requirements, however it must be noted that for any unforeseen and illnesses / accidents of a more serious nature, the nearest local Hopsital must be consulted. Please inform us of any special medical conditions prior to arrival, ie fridge required for insulin vials etc.
Mahoora use only Trackers with a wealth of knowledge, gathered from years of experience in the field, which they are genuinely enthusiastic to share with guests. Having worked in the National Parks of Sri Lanka for many years, they have a true understanding of both the habits and territories of specific creatures. Mahoora use their own Professional Naturalists on these adventures, all having an incredible passion and very obviously genuine empathy with the natural environment. Undoubtedly, they enhance each and every safari adventure.
To experience a true 4WD Jeep safari experience, Mahoora provide custom-built, open sided vehicles to optimise the viewing and photographing of the animals you are likely to encounter. An air-conditioned vehicle limits the viewing and photgraphing of Mother Nature at her best. The vehicles have good seats, and have suitable suspension for the not-so-perfect driving trails.
Sumptious meals are freshly prepared at all of the Mahoora Camps by our Executive Chefs. However, please note, that due to the remote location of the Camps, dietary requests must be made in advance to ensure customer health and satisfaction is upheld. It is vital that Mahoora are informed of any food allergies etc well in advance of arrival.
There are several pairs of binoculars on each of the Mahoora Camps, to enhance the guests' overall viewing and unique experience of Sri Lanka's spectacular wildlife.
Each of the Mahoora Camps provide umbrellas in case of any tropical downpours.
As electricity is limited in the jungle, a flashlight is provided in each of the Mahoora tents for guests' convenience.
Due to the nature of the Mahoora Camps and Safaris, we recommend that the jungle experience is suitable for children of 3 years and above. However, younger children are of course welcome, and we request that parents provide any special dietary requirements necessary. Cots for younger children can be provided on request.
Mahoora do not recommend that pregnant women partake in their safaris due to the fact that most of the trails are off-road.
Mosquito nets are provided only for the Luxury Camping Package.
Charging of mobile phones and laptops is possible in the Mahoora Camps on request. As electricity is limited in the jungle, it is possible only in the evenings.
