The Bundala National Park provides excellent opportunities to observe Sri Lankan aquatic birds, magnificently large crocodiles and unique dry zone plant life for nature enthusiasts on a wildlife safari.

The lagoons at the Bundala National Park are frequented by vast numbers of migratory waterfowl. The Park is also among the four UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in Sri Lanka making it a wildlife safari destination not to be missed.  This coastal sanctuary is a top spot for keen birders in search of water-birds, with up to 100 species being recorded here. The thorn scrub habitat is home to many mammals and also saltwater and mugger crocodiles. Bundala is the best place to observe both freshwater and estuarine crocodiles in the same habitat.

For keen birdwatchers, the wetland system harbours an incredibly rich bird life with approximately 197 species, including several species of migratory waterfowl which can easily be seen while on a wildlife safari.  A total of 383 plant species have been recorded in the park, including six endemic to Sri Lanka and seven species considered nationally threatened.  It is also home to 32 different species of mammals, five of which are classified as threatened. A highlight here is seeing the large flocks of the Greater Flamingo that seem to paint the park pink during their migration season.

Finding the best kind of accommodation for any Sri Lankan wildlife safari goes hand in hand with seeing the most in the least amount of time and that comes down to one thing - proximity. The closer you are to the wildlife the more you will cut down on travel time, and with Mahoora tented camps, you are able to get closer than ever. Mahoora tented camps are set up on the borders of the Park allowing you to truly feel one with nature. It is definitely a once in a lifetime experience and very different to hotel accommodation.  However, if you feel that you would still like to stay in a hotel, let us know and we can arrange that for you.
